ABOUT THE BREED ENGLISH SPRINGER SPANIEL
We decided that "Keepy" should have the honour to represent our past - she is the dog that was our personal favourite, together with her half brother Mastepiece ‘Nisse’. Both out of Fiddely Diddely Doo ‘Ellen’.
They both had the energy, the stamina to work a whole day. Though Keepy didn’t have her brain with her day three, just the legs still running and Nisse had a tendency to work a bit too wide- they still both looked and behaved like true springers. Not just a shell of ESS nor just the behaviour of one - and that is for us the goal when breeding.
But having a goal and reaching that goal is definitely two different things. We have definitely bred dogs that worked way too wide, that preferred roe deer, or even tougher game and those who didn’t hunt at all in the past. But the goal has always been the same.

WE BREED...
We breed foremost puppies for our needs, for our interest and for our purposes. The goal is to preserve the breeds as they was supposed to be and to maintain the abilities they were created to do. English Springer Spaniels originated in a pure hunter for netting. Most hunting was done during nights, dusk and dawn, so the ability to find scent was essential. They were later on used for springing or flushing the birds into the air to be shot with guns. Both springers and cockers was born in the same litters, they were weighed in to each group and with in the group they developed different styles for hunting. The cockers was smaller and used in denser terrain working closer to the ground - that meant that they developed an ounce more stubbornness and a little more independence than in the springers. So the springers are the ideal rough shooters dog and are easy to train, doesn´t question you and are keen in both water and on land. No they are not a retriever, they hunt, so scent will naturally be a distraction during a retrieve, but they are easily trained and very, very eager to please - if they are of the right type.
The breed type of "spaniels" is described in a book from 1576, and the split in two springers and cockers is described in a book from 1801 and finally in 1902 the breed was recognized as a breed of their own. The breed developed into two types (as a lot of breeds tend to do in the UK), a show and a field type in the 1930´s.
The typical spaniel is friendly, eager to please, willing to obey in any situation and fore most of all - easily stolen! Anyone can take a good springer for a hunt. They are also forgiving, easy going and loves anyone! A great springer loves touch, look takes correction and still look forward to work. They are open minded and are positive to a "trial and error" kind of training that means that if you reward the right things they will try to find more ways to get your appreciation by trying and testing.
