Edda did her first real work in the field yesterday. We thought it might help her in her training to do the real thing. She differs so much from the Springers we've been working with earlier, she is more of a cocker, if I should have an opinion in the matter. So she did a great work to start with and after about 20 minutes we came upon furst 3 birds, she walked after a few steps but nothing major. And in the next second the field exploded and about 30 birds took of. She couldn't see them though as we were deep into the raspberries and so were they. After another 20 minutes we came upon 3 more that she flushed and that time she took of for a trip of her own... Than I flushed one or more like it, stepped of its tail so It could fly! I was more than surprised as we've been standing there for some time. She got to work for another 20 minutes after that but we couldn't trace the birds. But these are wild pheasants and take off up into the trees most of the time so it's not that easy. Summoning it up we found that she naturally needs more obedience training but she really needed this and will need more of this too. She went down in energy fast and didn't gear up after the huge amount of game took of which took us all by surprise. So we'll definitely do it all over again on Monday or Tuesday.
