And then all of a sudden it works

23/3/2017

When I started with the obedience training with Iza and Becca, I started with demoloishing the class 3 in to athoms. Like heeel is a position in sitting next to my side, nothing else. It´s not wlaking with me, it´s nothing but a sitting position - not yet. To Becca it´s still a bit to much conected to where the hand of the treats might be lurching. She is a treats girls and it is to okay, she is almost 4 years old and this is new.

So today we strated with about 1 minute helle woork for each dog. Just two turns, stop, back, and a 180 degrees turn. We are focusing on the but movement in left turns, as that is the toughest ths far to get. So ther rest cam be slow, a bit late or a bit before me, but as long as they are on the balls of their feet in the turning left, I´m satisfied.

Then we went for sit, aly down and stand during walking - Iza might mix up the sit with the lay down or try both just or half way to both if it´s only a word, so we backed of and made it easier with a double command, and then it all just flowed with just the word! Becca I help her ever time as she will go for sit otherwise. And that is okay, this is quite new to her.

Calling the dog in, and sending it out and then giving commands lik sit, lay, stand or left, rigth and the new, go around is working quite nice. It´s still as short as 5-8 meters, though. The go around needs a double command.- but it is new. Just sending out and then lay down, sit ocr stand works well and Iza can do it with her cack to me, which is great when you are hunting... She can´t stop point just to obey, but she can still take a command while focused on something other.

Retrieving when you start on a straight line and then go left or right isn´t that difficult if you do it for short distances, like 2-3 meters. So we do that indoors, and longer out doors, because there are no walls to go around, and you can see the dummies. That is basic necesseties in retrieving so that should not cause us trouble, but it will surely, it´s too obvious in Izas opinion!

The jumping is still tricky for Becca, first of all, to her it is not a jump, its is an tiny obstacle that she shall make her body pass over, 30 cm wide, 15 hig and 15 deep. And in her opinion it might be okay if just one pwa is in the air abow or if she just walk around it if possible. But she knows it is the bucket that sall be passed... Iza has got that far that the bucket can be standing inthe middle of a room and she knows that it is the bucket that is the jump. She can do a retrieve while doing it, get a comand after. So the next step is to have more than one obstacle, and be able directed to the right one or send in different directions after a jump.

Weathering retrieving has just started, we work with matches and they still doesn´t relly get it. Iza picks the right one most of the time, but that is more luck then knowledge...

Ant the home work that we should have done before tonight, the active contact, the passive contact and the clicker. The last one is a definite one, the first two ones. They still need work though. It is obviously one thing to do it with just a dove or a cat as distraction, but at a new place with several things around her. Iza had a tough time focusing and chose to ignore the treats and toys, when it got to difficult. So we have two projects..
Passive contact with disturbance and retrieving a sausage and a bottle of whiskey. Martin says that she can´t retrieve until she can hand him both unscratched. Becca can retrieve a Dentastick and Iza has made it to the beer sausage (they are easier that the soft ones), the bottle of whiskey should not be that tought for Iza, she can do tumblers, heavy ones. But I haven´t tried the bottle yet so I don´t dear to promise anything yet...
