Today we did some field training with the girls, very pleased with Iza's ability to take direction, swimming and ignoring the running hare (she did not see it 😜) and only one mice killed and she didn't steal the shot pheasant, nor take the fight with the ferret or what ever she found. Becca is growing a lot! Taking more and more direction and follows much better, still a lot to work with but we have a great help in Birger Knutsson and support and feedback in Maine Sterner ☺☺☺
As Thursday is booked for a field work with Birger Knutsson and Maine Sterner, we had to focus a bit on birds today.
As we took the girls for a short work combining field reviering and retrieving yesterday and they both did an excellent work and Iza ignored the mice most of the time. But as there was a storm stopping us from any other real work done. So they were quite bored this morning and killed a roll of toilet paper, a paper box from the garbage and the hat of a stjarngosse..
So they were in deep need of some kind of brain work. We started off indoors with some easy distance obedience. Then we went out for a check of steadiness on dummies - a well needed reminder for the older girl and apparently something she loves when she remember it.
Then ioff to the real bird and our totally open basement, finally we get some use for the space that is still not dry... The first bird was an older lady that refuses to fly and loves to be a dog pet. She got more than clean, but she's not really tempting for the dogs. So I switched to her daughter and she was fat but willing to fly. Iza used the same technique as last time, if it doesn't stay put in an open space she put her paw on the tail! Then she lays down and waits.
Becca had a different plan, she treated it like a puppy, but when's he was trying to turn it upside down I stopped her. Then she tried Izas technique, but a Bracco is a bit stronger than a Brittany so the result was a bit of a shock to the bird.
Noore floor training for Becca, we'll go outside for practice tomorrow ☺️
We ran in to that black grouse hen again, ran into isn't really the right way to put it it was more like this:
I was walking while Iza ran free in the woods. All of a sudden she geared up, but it was in a new area so I was a bit suspicious that it might be mice again. But she froze and pointed looking a bit up in the tree. Okay this time I will make my way into to the trees and make her rise the bird on command. I just had the thought when the bird gave up and took off. Okay now what? Iza was still frozen, following the bird with her eyes and did not follow!!! She was even contactable afterwards, well after she had exploded and search the grounds in a 5-7 meter diameter for a few minutes. But it's still progress ☺
Now we are occupied for the rest of the evening wit the new DVD 🤗🤗🤗🤗
The last few days has been quite interesting and informative! Iza has found hare, mice and a quail that did not fly... the hare was just scented by her but seen by my, she wasn't extremely pleased with my idea of stopping but she did listen, she did work with me afterwards and she didn't go back to track it again 😅
The mice 🐭, well she knows how to end those and they are fewer now. Unfortunately it was during field training and her pattern had a tendency to become quite "grubbing" when there's no birdscent but a lot of mice in the field...
Becca on the other hand did the best pattern ever!! She was so receptive, easygoing and alert! One could not stop praising her ❤️❤️❤️
and finally that quail that refused to fly, well from my knowledge about what she did to the mice, I had second thoughts about the risk when it came to this practice. But she just pawns it, dashing it's tail and if it doesn't take off after that she lied down behind it! Not once, not twice but five times in a row ☺️
I know she was angry with Becca for playing with the beeping santa 🎅🏻 the got recently, one are not allowed to squeeze him says Iza, just carry and pet him! She is one of a kind that dog 😂😍
The dogs were quite pleased with yesterday's events, well not with the start as we took a trip to Borås Becca decided it was time to do something about the advent candleholder. She was quite cute with glitter all over her head though. How I know Iza didn't participate, well she jumps the gate as soon as we leave the house... 🙈
But after we'd done what we could about the basement project they had a great time ☺️ You should see or hear Becca when Martin bring the harness, she is all over the place and is so excited she is trying to crawl into to it all by her self. She's definitely in love with the #kickbike
Iza then, well she has not been given the chance to try it out yet, but I gave her a run in the woods and she found the black grouse hen again. This time she pointed, and I remembered to use the new whistle signal, she rose on command, walked after 5 steps, sat down spontaneously (and then when the bird was out of sight she became deaf and exploded in a circle run of 6-8 metres). I'm so happy for that bird and her choice to stay in the thickest area, flying fast out of sight and the darkness making it impossible to follow her 😇 She is giving us both great experiences!
Oh Edda, I have not told you much about her lately, but she lives with the best team ever Pernilla and Sophi, the border collie. We are so happy that we found you and the life you can give our girl. Okay she didn't appreciate the sheep 🐑 in the beginning, but the 🐱 🐱 and horses 🐴 were favourites from the beginning. She has found out that they are quite friendly the woolly ones too an tha Sophi might look like a sweetheart but that she is a lady with both style and brain ❤️️
We are so looking forward to see what the two of you will accomplish!
The pictures shows, the window before the dogs has got a chance to use it as lookout, how useful a Bracco Italiano can be and finally Iza hunting, well the last one can be a little tricky to see though 😜
No black grouse hen today but her boyfriend. 5 meter up in the air though so no chance to point for Iza celebrating 9 months today and in 10 days it's Eddas time 🎂🎂🎂 to celebrate her day ❤️️❤️️❤️️
, it is made for And the only reason for this is that I really appriciate these products. First the UK made dog food from Simpsons, we use two different types one is made on Salmon & potato the other one is 80% fish and the rest is vegatables (no grain). The first one is great basic food, tasty, smells fish naturally, but the dogs love it. The second is a rally fat/muscle builder for those who eat too little or are in need of a boost. Even the picky Becca eats twice aday and gladly to our surprice, I think we have tried 8 different dog foods at least since May and nothing keeps her interest for more than two days in a row, until this one. The bowl is licked empty, even when she is eating all alone. So we are keeping to this one! https://www.simpsonspremium.com/dogs
And then it is the Best buy ever! We use it as a nail clipper/ cordless-nail-filer / kloslip, it's adjustable in speed, has lithium battery and is very, very silent! #dremel #kloslip #nailclipper Well it´s not supposed to be a nailclipper but it's great! Does not become burning hot, Adjustable in speed but around level 6 is the best level. Easy to hold, weighing just right & very manageable. Note that it doe not come with a safety cup for long haires, so if you have adog wiith long coat I reccomend you to tie up the, preferably with adhesive bandages. And finally for all of us that had anything to do with horses during the 1970-80´s or has been in the need of a non steroid product against eczema, there is actually just one choice, tar, and tar products. Stops bacteria, melts easily, stinc, but actually work. Great on fungus in ears, corners of the mouth etc. Makes your home smell like a wild boars dream though ;) https://fyraess.se/sv/hund/16-4s-hundsalva-7394359755012.html
Well all of us write here, both humans and dogs ;) At least that was the plan but it seems it´s mostly me Robyn who´s attached to the keyboard...
